On a stormy evening in the year 705 A.D., a sinister looking high-prowed ship ploughed into the sands on the east coast of Ireland near present day Dublin. From the longboat fierce looking strangers rushed ashore to attack the monastery of Saint Columkill. They slaughtered the monks, plundered the monastery of all its gold and silver, and then disappeared back into the Irish Sea. Irish historians, referring to this incident, described the unwelcome visitors as ''dubh-ghaill'' or ''dark strangers''.
The first ''Doyle's had arrived in Ireland!
Nearly thirteen hundred years later, a descendent of these ''dark strangers'', Brian Doyle, and his long-time friend, Nick Bell, opened J.P. Doyle's Restaurant and Public House in September, 1999.
J.P. Doyle's casual atmosphere and warm, friendly service is consistent with that of its famous namesake back in Ireland. J.P.D.'s is located in historic Sleepy Hollow, New York and is easily reached by car or public transportation. Doyle's offers a varied and creative menu, serving dinner daily from 5:00pm until 11:00pm and lunch Friday through Sunday from 11:30am until 3:00pm and is available for all corporate and private parties. Complimentary parking is available for patrons of J.P. Doyle's after 5:00pm in the parking lot across the street.
